Where am I blogging now?

Posted on Sep 25, 2008 by billsimmon in blogging, Digital Culture, Life of Bill, vermont, writing | 6 Comments

I’ve been invited to be a contributor to the Vermont 3.0 tech/career jam blog that Seven Days has set up. They just launched it yesterday but I have a post up already (and I submitted another one yesterday that’s not up yet). Mostly, the blog is going to focus on the creative and technology economies in Vermont. I think Seven Days invited me to participate because I like creative and technological things. Other contributors to the blog include Cathy Resmer from Seven Days, Lee Bouyea from Fresh Tracks Capital, Nate Herzog from JDK and Elaine Young from Champlain College.  Here’s the bio I was asked to write…

I’m a filmmaker, writer and media educator living in the south end of Burlington. I’m particularly interested in the social effects of democratized media and technology. Guttenberg set us free in the 1400s but moveable type had nothing on the internet when it comes to the democratizing power of information technology. I maintain a number of blogs for a number of organizations, but this tends to be the common thread among them — greater personal freedom through social media and technology.

  • Occupation: filmmaker/writer/media educator
  • Favorite part of my job: Telling stories
  • Least favorite part of my job: deadlines
  • 1st PC: Timex Sinclair 1000 (1982)
  • Favorite VT hotspot: Speeder and Earl’s Pine Street
  • When I’m not in front of my computer I am: less free
  • I wish computers could: do my laundry
  • Top websites I read daily: Boing Boing, gerrycanavan.blogspot.com, washingtonmonthly.com, undead molly, nytimes.com

  1. Gutenberg has only one T. Maybe you were thinking of Steve Guttenberg?

Yes, Steve Guttenberg set us free. What? You want to make something of it?

  3. You were asked to participate because you’re an award-winning Vermont blogger! And also one of the smartest people I know about new media issues.

Also, your blog is one of the 5 I visit on a daily basis.

  4. I thought the restraining order placed some restrictions on how often you’re allowed to visit my blog. I’m afraid I’ll have to contact your parole officer.
