The Vermont International Film Festival begins today!  As of now I will be blogging at the VIFF blog exclusively for the next three days.  Tune in and catch all the buzz.  Here’s a snip from my last post there, about some of the events happening…

The fun starts Thursday evening at 6:00 p.m. at Palace 9 on Shelburne Road with the opening night party and awards ceremony. Then Trouble the Water will play at 7:00 with a follow up discussion with the filmmakers.

On Friday, screenings of Vermont films will begin at the Main Street Landing Performing Arts Center on the waterfront in Burlington. Films will play all weekend at both venues.

We’ll announce the winners of the Vermont film awards here Thursday night (I’ll post them after I get home from Trouble the Water, thank you) so you can make sure to catch them when they play this weekend.

Other notable events this weekend include the special screening of High and Outside, the documentary about Bill “Spaceman” Lee, former Red Sox pitcher and author. Lee will be on hand at the film’s screening along with the film’s producer for a Q & A. This special screening will be on Friday evening at 6:45 p.m. at Palace 9.

The Chiapas Media Project will celebrate its 10th anniversary at VIFF this year with a special screening of indigenous films from the Chiapas region of Mexico. The CMP has provided video and computer technology and training to the indigenous communities in Chiapas and Guerrero, Mexico since 1998. These films are a representative sample of some of their work from the last ten years. Alexandra Halkin, International Coordinator of the CMP, will be present for a Q&A after the screening, which is at the Main Street Landing venue at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday.

And you should by no means miss the Sisters LeMay make their fabulous appearance at the premiere of their documentary, Slingbacks and Syrup. The fun starts at 9:00 p.m. at the Main Street Landing Waterfont Theater.

These are just a few highlights. For the complete schedule, go here, where you can also download a handy, printable pdf for you to carry with you. See you there!
