Two great tastes…

You’re no doubt familiar with the popular Reece’s Peanut Butter Cup slogan, “two great tastes that taste great together.” And indeed, chocolate and peanut butter is one of the great flavor combinations of all time. My own personal version is dipping Ghiradelli Espresso Escape bars (60% cocoa bittersweet chocolate with espresso beans added) in all natural (no sugar added) peanut butter. Mmmm…

Well I have a new one to add to the list. My cousin Brian told me about these last Labor Day and at New Years, he promised to send them to everyone in the family. Two of these arrived in yesterday’s mail…

Emily refused to even try it, despite loving both milk chocolate and bacon. I tried it and it’s as advertised. It’s rather like the first time I ever had a Hawaiian pizza — I’d never thought of combining pineapple and bacon and pizza before, but once I tried it, I understood the appeal.

Blech…I tried it, and as I feared, it has an odd oiliness to it. Too fatty for chocolate.

If you dig on choinklate, you should check out the Inn at Shelburne Farms’ “Whole Beast” dinner.

Served annually at the close of the season (sometime late in October), the chefs have a special night to stretch their legs and cook a multi-course meal using ALL of the parts of the pig.

This past season (in addition to their standard delicious, offal-filled offerings), two of the standouts were the “bacon pop” (a piece of chocolate covered bacon on a stick) and candied bacon that was served with cider sorbet.

    One word: Sublime.

  3. Bacon gets me…

    Um,

    excited.
