I know I’m coming a little late to this party but OMG this is the perfect crystallization of the potential of the remix culture. An Israeli remixer going by the moniker Kutiman has taken clips from a bunch of YouTube videos and combined them to make amazing musical mashups. It’s not just a technological and cultural triumph, it’s art. Others have written more eloquently about this watershed work than I could, so I’ll just share my favorite video so far below. You can see the rest of Kutiman’s work here.

Mesmerizing. Especially the left hand on the keyboard dials/sliders and the piano chord. It’s like magic.
I highly recommend playing the credits and clicking on the individual contributors. It’s fascinating to watch the discrete parts of the mashup in their original, solitary form.
My comment to Pistol Stamen when he linked me to Kutiman was that YouTube suddenly seems a lot less lonely.
Oh, and for his part, Pistol observed that while this is a momentous achievement that deserves to be seen by millions, it will be quite difficult to put together a tour.
That is fucking beautiful. Wow.
On the contrary, it would seem that it’s on tour *now*.
What would be quite difficult is to have it translate as powerfully into an album.
