OMG Comcast sucks ass!

Posted on Apr 7, 2009 by billsimmon in Comcast sucks, Life of Bill | 4 Comments

We’re doing our taxes and because of my particular line of self-employment (and Emily’s too) we write off our telecom bill. So I want to see exactly how much we paid Comcast in 2008 for cable and internet. Sounds simple, right? I could go digging through old bills and credit card receipts, or I could, you know, ask Comcast. They should know, after all. So I sign up for their online account, assuming I’d be able to at least see how much my monthly payment is, if not an actual billing history.  Here is what I learned…

By signing up for an account, I have cancelled my paper bill — I won’t get one in the mail anymore. There is nothing in the documentation that I see that says they’ll email me when a bill is due and I don’t want to set up automatic payments. I hope they don’t mind late payments. It would have been nice to have been warned that by signing up for a web account, I was canceling my paper bill — they didn’t tell me that until after it happened.

There is not only no billing history for me to look at, I can’t even see my bill until the end of the next billing cycle. That’s just stupid. I know the information is available to customer service agents with just my phone number. I entered my account number and billing phone number and confirmed the account via my email address. Why can’t I see my own account info?

Here is the email I just received:

DO NOT REPLY TO THIS MESSAGE. IT WAS SENT FROM AN AUTOMATED SYSTEM AND REPLIES WILL NOT BE ANSWERED.

This message confirms that your statement delivery method has been changed. Please allow one full billing cycle for this change to take effect.

If you have elected to receive a paper statement, you also will continue to receive both an e-mail notification and an electronic statement.  These are features of our account management system and cannot be disabled at this time.

Thank you for using Comcast PayDirect to manage your Comcast account.

Um… all I did was go to comcast.com and cick on a generic “create an account” link. Now I’m signed up for online “Ecobill” payments and I can’t even see how much my monthly payment is. FAIL.

I guess I’ll have to wade through their phone hell and ask someone.

  4. Another disappointed customer. The internet is full of Comcast customers with horror tales. It’s kind of funny. Do we need the government to get involved?
