I cannot be the only one who’s thought of this

So Sarah Palin wants a talk show. The coincidental timing of Lou Dobbs’ departure from CNN cannot be ignored (Dobbs no doubt driven into retirement by the knowledge that Atlantic Magazine thinks Steve Benen is more influential than he is). So it’s not too much of a stretch to suggest that maybe Palin could fill the Lou Dobbs-shaped void at the Atlanta-based cable network. Of course, those are some pretty big shoes to fill. I think Palin might need some help on the new show. But who would be a good fit for such train wreck of info-tainment? Who would be willing to demean themselves so utterly and provide the ratings draw to compete with the other prime time news content?

I’ve got it! Blago! They could do a point-counterpoint sort of thing.

“She’s the pin-up girl of the irrational right, he’s the Chicago kingpin of crazy — when these two come face-to-face, it’s magic!”

They could call it “The Hockey Mom and the Hair.”

He’d totally do it too. He’s desperate for the money and a total camera hound. And she’d never pass up a prime time CNN gig. It would be like that WAMC show that Mario Cuomo used to do with Alan Chartock called “Mario and Me,” except completely insane.

Seriously, CNN, you must make this happen. You’ll be able to insulate your homes with cash you’ll be so rich off this. Call me.

  1. That’s positively inspired–both of them left before their terms ended, under heavy ethical and legal clouds. The only problem I can see is that both of them are as dumb as a post, but that’s not exactly a demerit on CNN.

  2. Correct. I think I actually tweeted about a Palin-Blago talk show a while back. I pictured it as a “Regis & Kelly” kind of show for the politically absurd.

Unfortunately (or fortunately, as the case may be), it looks like John King got the slot.
