t-shirt: I recently built a custom bedroom set(dresser and 2 night stands) to match a client’s bed frame. It was solid Mahogany as per request, with book-matched crotch grain on the tops. My wood bill alone was $1700. Originally my friend (a professional finisher) was going to apply the finish, a high quality clear coat to bring out the grain that looked like running water. They instead took the stuff to what my client called a finishing artist. It was distressed like they dragged it down the street behind their truck, then brush painted white with brush streaks and even runs in it. When my client showed it to me, she said, “doesn’t it look great”. I pointed out the runs and her response was, “Yeah, but she knows where to put them”. I never found out the cost of the finish but I was told it was substantially higher than my friend’s quote. Some things aren’t art, their just expensive crap.
