...a public access user who is here in the studio to do some video editing appeared in my office doorway.

"I was wondering if I could borrow something."

I looked up from my computer. "What's that?"

"A hammer."

I looked at him for a moment, waiting for an explanation. "Why do you need a hammer?" I asked him, innocently enough.

He said, "I need to pound on something."

I smiled, thinking he was joking--that he was frustrated with the editing equipment and wanted to take a hammer to it.

He was serious. He wanted me to give him a hammer. "Um," I said, "what do you want to pound on? Because hammers and video equipment don't really, um, go together well."

"No, it's for something on my car," he said.

Mystery solved. It's these little moments in life that make it all more interesting.
