I'm impressed! Although what's not mentioned in the article is why we have Gore's at all. They are surveying errors. Buell's Gore, for example, straddles the spine of the green mountains. When the towns were surveyed from either side, it turned out that there was a wedge of error between two towns (starksboro and huntington? i can't recall). Instead of assigning the erroneous plot to one town or the other, it remained unincorporated.

Yeah, I'd told Elizabeth about that, and she was going to explain, but I'm guessing the editors took it out.

And I just learned today that Maine has at least three gores as well.
