Seeing is not believingSunday, March 06 2005 @ 07:18 PM Here is a good CSICOP article taking Peter Jennings and ABC news to task for their pandering and too-credulous special, "Peter Jennings Reporting: UFOs -- Seeing is Believing."
Upshot: ABC can't have its cake and eat it too.

Bah! I have no patience for either ABC News or that stupid article. Yes, you heard me: "stupid".
Look, if you just consider the number of red-blooded 'mericuns who believe in angels, god, astrology and social security it boggles the mind, and yet humbles the spirit to the point where you realize that the skeptic is in the minority. Not just a minority, but a despised minority. Just try walking to any public place anywhere in america and say (in a manner that is consistent w/ your first amendment right to do so) "I can't believe anyone is so stupid to believe in God". See where it gets you. Do you get to debate the dichotomy of ontology in the context of reductionist epistemology? No, you get shoved. This doesn't boil down to giving up on your friends and neighbors, this is a matter of ACCEPTING that the reason we feed them UFO's and religion is to keep them awake (not anesthetized). We feed them UFO's, Bill. We don't challenge them - we FEED them. We want this, we don't want to fight it! The CSIOP yahoos are ruining America by scraping away the perceived rot of the American soft tissue. But it's not rot, its the vibrant, organic layer that nourishes the stale intellect. Water the flowers and ignore the weeds and the harvest of human souls may begin. Don't get on the ship! The book, it's a *COOKBOOK*! Seeing is not believing
