I don't know how I feel about online friend-matching, and the potentially obnoxious interactions, but the success of online dating services like eHarmony.com or Match.com makes me seriously wonder what happened to rational thought. How many people is it that are PAYING MONEY to meet someone to date???? Give me a buh-huh-reak. Ask your friends if they know anyone available, or go down to the bookstore or coffee shop and smile at someone you like. How bizarre is it that people actually pay Dr. Neil Clark Warren $70, or whatever it is, for a few month's membership just so they can find, argue, and break up with the same drunken perverts they would have met at the local bar for the price of a couple drinks? Talk about sheep, Cheeeerist.

One of my closest friends is dating someone he met through an online pay dating service. They've been together almost 4 years. I think he'd say it was money well-spent.

Did he try elsewhere? I mean, if you're having absolutely no luck elsewhere, and you're really trying to hook up, I can see it making sense. But I doubt all these people making eHarmony founders rich are even trying elsewhere.
