New Business People article is out

writingI hadn't written one of these in a long time because it ends up being too much of a time suck for me--the transcribing takes me forever. But mom was in a bind so I agreed to write an article for the August issue of Business People Vermont.

Here it is. It's about the new owner of the South Burlington Denny's. It's pretty dry stuff because it's written for an audience of, well, business people. The guy was really nice though and he actually made me want to go back and eat at Denny's again. I hadn't been in years. Actually, as I was writing the article late one night, an idea occured to me to bring the iBook over to Denny's and write while nursing a midnight Moons Over My Hammy and a shake, but fortunately good sense prevailed.

One frustrating thing is the formatting of the online versions of these articles. Em dashes get completely stripped in the translation--and I am one em dash-crazy writer--resulting in some awkwardly wrong sentences. Also the photo captions stick out into the body of the article! Aargh!

It's okay, Bill. Just take a deep breath...

UPDATE: Ack! It's starts right in the first paragraph! See if you can guess where an em dash is supposed to go...

Jim Benware has lived the American Dream not the Hollywood American Dream of Jimmy Stewart and John Wayne, but the real-deal, genuine-article, honest-to-goodness American Dream.

It's in the print version, I assure you. I know the editor and she's very good (hi mom!).
