The New Yorker on BSG

The writer is clearly disdainful of SF. Her praise for BSG (yes, it's a positive review) is made up of statements like:

  • The story isn’t ridiculous...
  • There’s no woozy space-aginess in the show, no theremin or symphonic music...
  • ...Baltar—a genius but also a selfish twit, like “Lost in Space” ’s Dr. Smith to the nth power...
  • She also characterizes SF fans by invoking the "get a life" SNL skit that Shatner did back in the late 80s. Um, hello? Has she actually seen any SF TV since the 60s? Oh, apparently Next Gen didn't appeal to her:

don’t feel bad if you don’t like watching shows filled with characters who have disturbingly shaped heads and faces. I myself am of the school that believes that frontal lobes belong inside the skull. I’m delighted when a character on TV has a brain—I just don’t want to see it.

    Whatever.
