As machinima it's great. As cinema it sucks. Also, there's a suspension of disbelief issue. Wouldn't the guy have stood up during the explosions and falling file cabinets? It's possible he was deaf, but not blind as well. And what are those platforms and objects hanging from? Sky hooks? However, all that griping aside, it's a much better application than this use of the Unreal engine (link to BBC news story).

When I play the newer generation of first-person shooters like Doom 3 and Quake, there's usually a point in the game where some object or being acts in such a real-life way--either falling, or rolling, or being thrown by an explosion, or reacting to force in some realistic manner--that I can't help but be wowed by what must be some pretty complex Newtonian physics coded into the engine of the game. This Half Life mod reminded me of that.

In the latest Superluminal Mario Brothers, they actually experience so much frame dragging around a black hole that they swap spacetime futures and trade moustaches. It's great. It also explains the "brothers" as a consequence of the descent and return across the event horizon (as seen by the duck).

I'm from West Newton, MA and the physics there is pretty much the same as the rest of the earth. West Newtonian Physics. It's back and to the left, back and to the left.

That's better than Nortonian physics, which starts off great but ends up in the sewer. Bang Zoom.
Of course there's also the fruity variant FigNewtonian physics, which, though superior in many ways to the others, is poorly understood, underestimated, sometimes ridiculed - but nonetheless admired by its devotees. |
