Vote "no" on 9

scienceSo I try not to use Candleblog as a political tool but all of you Burlington readers, seriously, vote "no" on the very silly ballot question #9:

Shall the City Council be advised by the voters to discontinue the practice of fluoridating the public water supply?

I actually spent an hour last night discussing this issue with the Vermont State Dental Director (he was in the VCAM studio doing an interview on the subject). The science is very clear on this one, kids. Fluoridation is a good thing.

The part of this debate (and it's gotten a lot of heat in Burlington) that bothers me the most is the slogan on the "vote yes" signs around town: "If there's any doubt, get it out!" That's a very similar argument to the one the Inelligent Designers like to use: If there's any doubt about evolution (and there is by the mere fact that we say there is), then let's teach "alternative theories" too.

Anyway, vote "no" on 9!
