It may also be of some interest to Candleblogger TV junkies that there is apparently a new episode of Studio 60 on tomorrow night.
Thanks Steve & Eve!

Fuck yeah! Veronica! It was really getting interesting last night and I was bummed that it was over, so here's to possibility of more clever television.

Don't believe it -- it's gone for good as TV. Although there is talk of Rob Thomas writing a feature script!

Alright, thanks to the magic of BitTorrent, I'm completely caught up, and I while I stand by my earlier statements that the first half of this season was stupid, offensive, and disappointing, the second half still definitely had the air of old Vero about it. Even Logan perked up!
Here's hopin'... "I'm not dead yet!"

Charlie Brookers Screenwipe
On the subject of TV, i invite you all to check out "Charlie Brookers Screenwipe". this is yet another show written, produced etc by the great UK TV comedy genius, charlie brooker (mighty boosh, nathan barley, etc...). watch it if you're not afraid to laugh or aren't an apologist for the tidal wave of crap shown on television. yes it's from the UK- but all the crits apply here too. WATCH IT DAMN YOU-
fortunately, they're all available on youtube. and here's a more convenient link:

I think TV is at a serious turning point right now. Viewership is way down in general (new media and all that), meaning ads can't sell for as much, so the big networks are going to reality TV -- shows that are cheaper to produce than the dramas and comedies but still garner decent audiences -- its lowest common denominator TV. This means a shift away from the other fascinating recent (last ten years) development -- the small-screen renaissance. By and large, TV narrative fiction has been getting amazingly great in the last decade. Shows like The West Wing, The Sopranos, The X-Files, The Simpsons, Deadwood, (hell, almost everything on HBO) and others, not to mention the crazy-ass weird little shows on Adult Swim and elsewhere on cable have raised the artistic bar considerably and given narrative features a run for their money as far as quality narrative content goes.
I watched the YouTube link and it's a funny, snarky show, but I'm pretty bored with "TV is stupid." TV has been stupid for a long, long time (yeah, I've read Neil Postman). What's more interesting to me are the ways in which TV isn't as stupid anymore. Does that make me an "apologist for the tidal wave of crap?" "I'm not dead yet!"

I don't know ARE YOU, ? I wasn't aware that i implied (implied? inferred? ) being interested in good TV meant that you were an apologist for crap TV- but by all means go ahead. If you wanna make a leap off a cliff holding the hand of mediocrity while loving quality- I'll be there with the video camera recording your nose dive into tartarus, my old friend.
anyhoo- i think brooker's great. in fact I think he's a genius- smarter than you even. or me.and funnier- because, as we all know, snotty british gen exers with too much pop culture knowledge are FUNNY. THEY JUST ARE (like using all caps. ALL CAPS is some funny-ass shit, its the web-comment equivalent to like, like something really highbrow-FUNNY YEH, TAKE THAT cheese-slinger/simmonoid!!). but hey, to each his own. But if you don't watch Nathan Barley and give it a Bill Simmon "thumbs Ehh.." I'll stab you in the temple with a studio 60 promotional swizzle-stick, throw you down to the ground and go to the bathroom on you. XXXOOO

woah, i'm all like "hey, that flameape is fucking back, man" and i'm like all "lewis black stole his black coat thing" and he's all like "tv is fucking funny if it's british or BRITISH" and like I'm all like "whoa, 'holding the hand of mediocrity...' that's so cool" and then i'm all like "hey, i quote stuff all the time and call it my own" and like I still say, don't try to preach quality TV in a town like Burlington where people still look up and point at airplanes.
