First up, there's going to be a panel discussion one week from tonight, on Monday September 17th, called "Can Blogging Save Civil Liberties?" The Vermont ACLU is hosting the discussion, which will be held at the Isley Public Library in Middlebury at 7:00 pm. The distinguished panelists include...
- Steve Benen, writer, researcher, and political consultant from Essex Junction who is lead editor of Salon.com's "Blog Report"
Fred Lane, author from Burlington of the book The Decency Wars and regular contributor to the technology Web site Newsfactor.com
Cathy Resmer, online editor at Seven Days from Burlington who herself blogs and oversees that paper's varied blogs
Bill Simmon, filmmaker, teacher, writer, and free speech advocate from Burlington whose blog "Candleblog" has won several blogging awards
Hector Vila, professor of writing at Middlebury College, where he was responsible for initiating blogging on campus
Moderated by Allen Gilbert, executive director, ACLU of Vermont
The above was typed verbatim from the poster for the event. So far, the VT ACLU has not put anything on their website about the event so I have nothing to link to. Hopefully Seven Days will run something, especially since Cathy is a panelist.
The panel is happening in honor of Constitution Day, the anniversary of the signing of the US Constitution in... when? Anyone...? Bueller...? In something eighty-seven...? That's right, in 1787.
Ironically,or perhaps, appropriately, it will also be the day that Alberto Gonzales will officially step down from the office of Attorney General. It's also my first wedding anniversary. w00t!
