Bill, where would you prefer your little under-dorks like me respond to content from these shows?  Here at Candleblog, or over at the PSF blog?

Anyway...Butcher...I mean, Peter Jackson.  On the one hand, based on what I feel was typical PJ more-is-better, I-can't-help-my-horror-background-self-orcs-are-birthed-out-of-gooey-pods mishandling of the LotR, I totally disagree with you on it being a bad thing that he end up somehow distanced from any further furry-footed films, leaving the door open for someone else to direct.  On the other hand, however, if I were forced at gunpoint to pick one Tolkien book to reluctantly let him get his screwball meathooks on, it would be the more kiddie-oriented Hobbit.  His tendency to go overboard might lend itself to a sorta tongue-in-cheek childrens story, and the collateral damage could be forgiven, or at least ignored more easily.

And it should be international law that New Line has to set aside revenue from these films to let a patient, animated Silmarillion series be made by someone with a brain for Tolkien fans tired of bringing barf buckets to the theatre.

Should I stop mixing words and let you know how I truly feel about PJ?  Thank you.
