Doesn't the robotic "Bank angle...Bank angle..." seem way too reserved for the actual calamity befalling the aircraft? ("Actually, it the aircraft whut befalling." Ba-dump, crash!) If it'd been *my* message, I think I'd have opted for something more like, "DUDE! WAKE UP!"
Thanks for the video. Teh cool indeed! Bank angle!

True, but when you are in the middle of a catastrophe, the last thing you want is a robot screaming: "OHFUCKOHFUCKFUCKOHFUCKWE'REGONNAFUCKIGNDIE!!AHHHH!! I like the sort of sedate ding, rather than a rapid dinging, which one would think that the plane would emit, given the gravity of the situation. I always liked HAL's Dulcet tones: I've just picked up a fault in the AE35 unit. It's going to go 100% failure in 72 hours. Look Dave, I can see you're really upset about this. I honestly think you ought to sit down calmly, take a stress pill, and think things over. I know I've made some very poor decisions recently, but I can give you my complete assurance that my work will be back to normal. I've still got the greatest enthusiasm and confidence in the mission. And I want to help you. Dave? What are you doing Dave? I think I have right to know Dave. HAL: I'm afraid. I'm afraid, Dave. Dave, my mind is going. I can feel it. I can feel it. My mind is going. There is no question about it. I can feel it. I can feel it. I can feel it. I'm a... fraid. Good afternoon, gentlemen. I am a HAL 9000 computer. I became operational at the H.A.L. plant in Urbana, Illinois on the 12th of January 1992. My instructor was Mr. Langley, and he taught me to sing a song. If you'd like to hear it I can sing it for you. Dave Bowman: Yes, I'd like to hear it, HAL. Sing it for me. HAL: It's called "Daisy." [sings while slowing down] HAL: Daisy, Daisy, give me your answer do. I'm half crazy all for the love of you. It won't be a stylish marriage, I can't afford a carriage. But you'll look sweet upon the seat of a bicycle built for two.

I just want to know: If I get down to Houston, will Larry give me a ride in that thing? I've just put it on my list of things to do before I die.

Fun! But where, pray tell, was your courage that time we went to Disneyworld and you wouldn't go on Space Mountain with me? Hmph.

Oooo, Yes! Me too please! That would be soooo cool to fly the simulator! Course I'd want a little time to buy a sim program and get halfway good at it, before going. Don't to completely pooch it.

If the simulator was half as cool as the video was twice as much as i had expected compared to the generally 1/10th of what is usually worth viewing 40% of the 10% that is really good, then I have to admit it's not even twice what it could never have been.
other than that it's cool. |
