Standby blogging revisited

life of billWe made it as far as Newark  (by way of Northwest Arkansas) and I'm blogging from the subterranean crew area beneath the airport.  It's this whole labyrinthine complex of passageways, lockers and laz-e-boy chairs with a decent cafeteria (with prices notably lower than those upstairs).  Larry even sneaked me back to the super secret smoking area behind some electrical gear in what looked like a basement boiler room.  Cigarette butts on the floor told me he isn't the only airport crew person who utilizes this particular spot.

The last flight to Burlington was delayed, luckily for us, or we'd have missed it.  As it is now, we stand a passable chance of making it home tonight, but I don't want to jinx it.  I'm looking forward to being back in Vermont's chilly embrace (and Emily's warm arms).  ... Aww.  Was that too ooky for this blog?  Not snarky and cynical enough for you?  Tough.  Sincerity is so the new irony anyway.  I miss my wife, get over it.  :)

UPDATE: We couldn't get on the flight to BTV and all of the Laz-e-boys are taken in the crew cave so Larry and I are now contemplating a car rental and overnight drive north.  I'm all for it, but Larry is hedging.  Anyone see Planes, Trains and Automobiles?  All I can say is, "Those aren't pillows!"
