Whilst I admit it isn't much to complain about, the near-contant rumblings have TOTALLY RUINED MY AFTERNOON nap. This is an important nap, without which I tend to get grumbly later on as the evening progresses.
Every time they buzz, I can't help think "Gee, I just put $30 into a tiny car to fill up the gas tank 3/4 of the way. I can't IMAGINE how much it's costing to keep the fighter jets in the sky for no effin' reason..." Especially at a time when the VA keeps losing funding. I hate waste. Let's chip in and send a birthday cake to Camp Johnson with "We get it. Happy Birthday. Now play nice and be quiet. -- Stupid Citizens." written in frosting. Thunderbirds are go (ing to annoy me)

I'm already annoyed. It's not enough that I have to hear those planes every freaking day at my home beneath the flight path--now I have to hear them at work, too. I just keep thinking how my reaction to fighter jets overhead would be different if I lived in, say, the Middle East.

i checked my files and sure enough, i paid taxes. i've already chipped in for those assholes - they're not getting any more. it's like a parade of tanks for our supreme leader. i believe that one day, glorifying our military weapons will seem antiquated and coarse. where is the squadron of dairy farmers showing off their polished stainless-steel vacuum bucket milkers? oh right, not glamorous.... sorry.

Freyne makes the same point today as well, plus adds a few historical footnotes.

So THAT'S what's going on. Luckily they only flew overhead once
(louder/lower than usual), it sounds like you folks near the lake are getting the brunt of it. Cathy - We too are near the airport, and are on the landing path for the actual base. Those supply planes are huge. And noisy. The joys of living near a base....not. Thunderbirds are go (ing to annoy me)

Those C-130s are beasts, aren't they?
Though I almost find the morning Fed Ex plane as annoying, and almost just as large.

Bush just called me. He said, "Maybe your smartass online buddies would prefer planes with terrorists hold explosive tubes of toothpaste flying over their heads, uh?"

That'd be "holding" tubes of toothpaste... Bush called me back, he said, "Way to ruin a joke, liberal boy."

To put a bit of a different spin on this - and maybe others realize this (I did not)
but i was told the hidden agenda here was just recruitment. The Thinderbirds are simply part of a program ( that we fund) to get more teens from rural areas with high unemplyment and or low wages and that over the next 3 years they expect to get 2000 to 3000 new recruits as a result of this day ( from the plattsburg/ upper new endland potential pool). This make sense to anyone? |
