shameless electioneering

candleblog general topicRoll out those lazy, hazy, crazy, Daysie days of summer...

Yes, it's that time of year again. Hot on the heels of my nagging you all to send me photos for the collage, I am compelled to urge you to go and vote in the annual Seven Days readers choice awards, the Daysies. As some of you may know, Candleblog was lucky enough to win the 2005 Daysie for Best Vermont Blog. Last year, we showed a strong finish (technically tied for 2nd place), but Philip Baruth's excellent and popular political blog, Vermont Daily Briefing, beat us to the top prize.

This year however, there are two blogging Daysies being awarded, one for the best political blog, and one for best non-political blog. I think drawing some genre distinctions makes sense, but the non-political category is much bigger than the political one. I don't know how many political blogs there are in Vermont really, but I bet there are less than 20, even using a fairly broad definition of "political blog." There are hundreds of non-politcal Vermont blogs.

Anyway, please consider Candleblog when casting your vote for Best Vermont Blog (non-political). The ballot includes an admonishment against "bribes, payment or other incentives," so I can't promise you money or sexual favors in exchange for votes (but email me -- we'll talk -- wink wink).

Two important points if you vote:

  • You must vote for at least 23 items (25%) on the ballot in order for your ballot to be counted, so don't just skip to the blog awards and leave it at that.
  • You must copy and paste the blog's complete url, not just the blog's name, into the voting field. If you're voting for Candleblog, that url is: "http://www.candleboy.com/candleblog/." We actually got burned by this last year because one person typed "Candleblog" into the voting field and as a result, we lost the official runner-up status to Matty the Greek's blog, Diabologue. (And I'm thrilled for Matty, but it kind of sucked because the intent of that particular voter was pretty clear. My, these grapes taste awfully sour.)
  • Anyway, I'll keep my Daysie nagging to a dull roar. Voting is open until June 27th and the awards will be announced August 1st. Vote early. Vote often. Here's the Ballot.

    PS
Please consider voting for Candleblog's sister blog, Dohiyi Mir, for best political blog. NTodd was my blogging inspiration back in ought four, when I started Candleblog. Plus, he's an uncivil lefty pacifist, so that should count for something.
